Appeal Codes

An Appeal Code tracks your fundraising efforts. It shows where your donations came from. For example, you will probably want to have an appeal code that represents your web site so that you can determine how much money was raised through the web site. In general, you will create an Appeal Code to represent all of your fundraising events or functions.

Click the Codes tab and the top of the page and move to the Appeal Code section. Click Add New to create a new Appeal Code.

The Description tells you what this Appeal is about. Since Appeal Codes represent fundraising events or functions, you will want to give it a description that ties it to that function. The Code, identifies the record for the program and can be fairly simple. It just has to be unique. You can't have two appeal codes with the same code. The Active check box allows you to make this code Inactive once you no longer intend to use it.

A Campaign is a way to group several appeal codes together. Let’s say, for example, that you are raising money for your new building but you have multiple ways of doing that. You have a page for the web site, you have an email appeal, and you hold a special event at a local store. Each of those can have their own appeal code so that you can track their success later. But you could also create a campaign code to group them together under one umbrella called the New Building Campaign. See the section on Campaign Codes for more information.
